The close collaboration between Cicerone and Viruta Lab resulted in this unique renovation project for an old two-story house located in calle Progreso.
The project’s understated and elegant design extends throughout the property, seamlessly integrating original architectural elements and classic-style details such as exposed partition walls, high molded ceilings, and electrical appliances. In contrast, the renovation harmoniously incorporates modern elements such as the wall sconces and the circular kitchen hood. As a tribute to the house’s history and its location in El Cabañal, the choice of floor and wall coverings evokes the typical maritime atmosphere of old fishermen’s cottages.
The new layout optimizes the limited space on each floor intelligently. On the ground floor, a cozy living area leads to a simple yet elegant kitchen consisting of lower lacquered furniture in stained oak tones. Adjacent to the kitchen, a wooden panel subtly integrates a door that accesses a full bathroom.
On the upper floor, two double bedrooms and a shared bathroom form the space, separating the two rooms. The exquisite carpentry work on this level is particularly notable. The walls separating the bathroom from the bedrooms are clad on all sides with a large wooden paneling system that houses two original doors from the house, rehabilitated and adapted as sliding doors. Hidden ceiling rails allow the doors to be moved to close off one opening or another as needed. A small microcement-covered staircase connects this floor to the roof terrace, where a spacious outdoor area offers the perfect place to enjoy the Mediterranean climate almost year-round.
